The Folkemødet is an annual political and democratic festival held in Denmark, taking place on the island of Bornholm. It brings together politicians, businesses, civil society organizations, media, NGOs, and citizens for open dialogue, debates, workshops, and networking.
Inspired by similar democratic gatherings such as Almedalen Week in Sweden, Folkemødet aims to strengthen democracy by creating a space where decision-makers and the public can meet on equal footing, exchange ideas, and discuss important societal issues. The event is open to everyone and features hundreds of sessions covering topics such as politics, technology, sustainability, social innovation, and culture.
Folkemødet is widely regarded as one of Denmark’s most important platforms for public debate, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement across sectors.
